Mike Wallace ’84 ’85 began financially supporting Texas A&M University as soon as he received his diploma. In 1988, he met his wife, Angela, a University of Texas graduate. Although the two may argue about who has the better football team, they can agree that when you give back, everyone wins!
Mike, how were you able to start your giving journey so soon after graduating?
I wouldn’t say that I was able, but rather I was willing. I didn’t have a big bank account, but I felt that giving consistently every year no matter how much or little could have an impact over time. Today, the accumulation of nearly 40 years of giving is significantly impacting the lives of young Aggies. Many people don’t realize that every little bit counts. I attribute much of my success to my time at Texas A&M and want to do my part in giving back so that future generations can have the same life-changing experiences as me.
What motivates you to continue giving?
During my time in the Corps of Cadets, I learned what it meant to truly be an Aggie. Texas A&M’s core values inspire me daily, and as a former student, the act of selfless service is near and dear to my heart. When I met Angela, she radiated the same charitable spirit as me. Together, we’ve impacted multiple organizations at Texas A&M.
Angela, how have you and Mike created a gift that aligns with both of your passions?
Our most recent endowment to the Sea Aggie Band at Texas A&M University at Galveston brought together Mike’s ties to Aggieland and my ties to Galveston. Our son, Cameron ’23, played in the Sea Aggie Band and enjoyed his time there. Additionally, I was raised in Galveston and my mother was a local music teacher on the island. We decided to create the endowment in her honor, and we’re looking forward to supporting the band’s operations with our gift!
