Tell us about Texas A&M’s Sports Car Club.
Our club focuses on the social side of car ownership, giving Aggies an opportunity to meet other car enthusiasts. You don’t even have to own a sports car to be a member as long as you’re interested in them. We’re proud to curate a space where everyone is united by their love of cars.
How has the club evolved?
The club was founded in 1968 and is the oldest active collegiate car club in America. In the past, the Texas World Speedway and RELLIS Campus were even used to host races. After the pandemic, we encountered a steep decline in membership, but we’ve achieved a revival this past year through Cars and Coffee social gatherings and reintroducing track days and autocross events.
Describe an autocross event.
It’s a big, open lot with a course of orange cones. Cars come peeling out of the gate, and you’re judged on how much speed you maintain through turns and how well you navigate without hitting any cones.
How did your passion for cars develop?
It started in high school alongside realizing that I wanted to pursue engineering. Today, my white Dodge Challenger is my beloved, and the College Station car scene has only furthered my interest!
